Nubeo
Nubeo is an original high-end watch-making brand, currently creating the most novel designs in the industry. The brand was conceived at the beginning of the twenty-first century to explore new concepts and apply them to traditional mechanical watch making. As civilization evolves by disseminating and adapting the experience and knowledge of ancestors and previous cultures, Nubeo takes traditional technical concepts as a functional starting point but then begins its singular development with a pure release of imagination. Thus, Nubeo establishes the basis of its design philosophy: inspiration comes from the natural shapes of life’s beginning. Develop new concepts of volume and geometry, which when applied to a design idea, result in the creation of innovative and complex shapes. Nubeo has created a special R&D department to discover new geometries that can be applied to watch making. This allows to create distinct models within the Nubeo brand framework.
INTELLIGENT MUTATION
Brands evolve much like animal species do. As a result of the Snakefish project, Nubeo’s gene code has mutated. Following the jellyfish image – emblematic up until now of its Jellyfish collection – Nubeo has transformed into a snake, the Black Mamba – as attractive as it is dangerous. This mutation has enabled Nubeo to grow both technically and aesthetically but it has also posed a mammoth challenge, impossible to meet without Kobe Bryant – the best basketball player in the world - as the huge source of inspiration and energy that he is. The Lakers shooting guard adopted the Black Mamba nickname early on in his career. Quite a warning for his opponents since the Black Mamba is considered to be the most dangerous snake in the world given its speed of movement – able to reach up to over 12 miles per hour – and its deadly venom. The Black Mamba is the largest snake in Africa – between 8 and 13 feet long – and its name is due to the color of its mouth, the last thing its ill-fated victims see. Nubeo has drawn on the image of the Black Mamba and Kobe Bryant’s inspiration to produce its most recent and fascinating creation. The Black Mamba defies any pre-established notions regarding sports watches, combining the most advanced construction techniques with a spectacular, once-in-a-lifetime design.
BASEL - NUBEO’S STRATEGY LOCATION
Nubeo’s choice of Basel as its headquarters reflects its founders passion for design and top range watches. Famous for hosting the most important watchmakers fair in the world, the city is also noteworthy as one of the most active focal points in design, architecture and art in Switzerland. Amongst other prestigious brands, Basel is home to the Herzog & de Meuron design studio which has created some of the greatest landmarks in modern architecture such as the Beijing National Stadium where the 2008 Olympic Games took place. Throughout the 20th century Switzerland’s major design and architecture schools highlighted their inclination towards minimalist and functional forms, a legacy inherited from the German Bauhaus maestros and whose influence has been decisive in the careers of designers based in the region. The clear Bauhaus trademark is also present at Nubeo’s headquarters, located in a 13th century building which has been wisely adapted to embrace the precepts of innovative and avant-garde design.
One of the hubs of Swiss watchmaking, Basel is located at less than an hour’s drive from the Jura mountains and its valleys and it is here where the components of top range watches are made. Basel is also home to the elite group of companies with which Nubeo collaborates to produce its watches. Collaborative work with the best is vital to success in any business. Nubeo is well aware of this and only teams up with the most prestigious manufacturers in the Jura and the town of La Chaux-de-Fonds. Only a handful of specialised companies are capable of manufacturing the astounding components designed by Nubeo and their support has been crucial in bringing to fruition a project of the calibre of the Black Mamba.
