Throughout the 20th century, Switzerland’s major design and architecture schools trended toward minimalism and functional form, an influence of German Bauhaus maestros and a discernable style now widely endorsed by designers in the region.

Distinctly reflecting the trademark Bauhaus style, Nubeo’s headquarters are strategically placed in a 13th century building with a showroom that has been renovated to embrace this avant-garde design.
Nubeo's headquarters are located in the center of the city of Basel, an exclusive area of Basel where are placed the most luxury fashion boutiques and the headquarters of the principal Swiss private Banking.+

The building have two towers. In between the two towers is a Nubeo terrace. During Basel Exhibition, Nubeo guests can enjoy the pleasant weather of April and discover the latest Nubeo timepieces and jewelry creations.
We have a space of 800 m2 divided in 4 floors. Timepieces showroom, jewelry showroom, watch atelier and assembly area , Nubeo office and administration, meeting room, Black Mamba showroom, Nubeo Jewelry design studio and 4D department divide in two areas: Concept+Design office and Marketing Department.+

The modern glass facade at Bäumleinsgasse hides an old building from the 13th Century.
The re-construction of the medieval building is fully integrated. The old architecture and the most advanced High-Tech structures coexist in perfect harmony.+

The old building has late-medieval structures and contains remnants of valuable equipment such as wall and ceiling murals, wood paneling and stucco. Department of Basel monumental protection requires the preservation of the layers of paint applied to the building.
On the roof of the Nubeo meeting room are registered the layers of paint. It is amazing to find in 20 centimeters of wood 600 years of history.+

Nubeo Jewelry showroom. The principal display have 7 wood bases where we display the latest Nubeo jewelry limited editions. 28 points of fiber optic light are located around the furniture. The color-changing and the intense light make possible incredible and magic special effects of light generated in the pieces of jewelry.

4D is the department of definition, creation and design of Nubeo. 4D is also the explanation of the basis concept that Nubeo apply to its desings :
DREAM YOUR DESIGN + DEVELOP YOUR DREAMUnder this acronym, you can find the essential philosophy of Nubeo. When a designer creates or imagines every model in his mind, is almost free, there is no physical laws that inhibit the realization of the design, but it is aboslutely different when you try that this shape becomes real. Then, the problems arise and sometimes you have to change the fundamental design basis. With this declaration Nubeo means that it is not important how difficult is to transform a dream in a design. This, although uthopic, is our philosophy; we try to reflect our original design without any change to a real object: a watch, a jewel, a furniture.
4D department is not only the design department. Also here, we decide our marketing strategies, the awareness brand and the visual concept. Just like that, Nubeo can develop concepts and products more solids avoiding the hazard.+

A watchmaker is always fighting with the chaos trying to create small universes where very small details work perfectly.
A designer works with the chaos inside his mind trying to maintain a very high level of creativity to achieve the principal objective: "CREATE".
Nubeo is a designer, jeweler and watchmaker. We fight with the chaos and we need the chaos..... difficult to manage both universes at the same time.+

Empty spaces, white walls to not disturb the chaos of our mind, one book to scketch and to write ideas, one powerful last generation workstation connected to a renderfarm server and one A3 digital drawing tablet ..... Nothing less nothing more.+

As fanatic of design, we not only design and create our timepieces, jewelry limited editions or furniture, but also we design and create all our marketing tools like catalogues, packaging, advertisement layouts, billboards, displays and Nubeo concept shops.
Inside 4D department we design our strategy of communication and at the same time we design our products.
4D department of Nubeo is our graphic design studio and advertisement agency.
We collaborate with external artists, designers and artisans like Kubus Media to create our website platforms , DJ O'Neil from Hub Strategy to create the Nubeo documentaries or with prestigious photographers like Sheryl Nields to stage spectacular photo shots like the last one in January 2009 with Kobe Bryant.

Nubeo 4D Department is a complete studio design and we need the right "tools and brushes". We work with the latest and most advance technical and creative software:
ProEngineer, Zbrush, Modo, Lightwave, Rhino, MaxwellRender, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Acrobat Professional) and Final Cut Studio.
As watch designers, the first step in creating the different parts and components to be assembled in 3D computer software. The experience acquired by 4D – Nubeo’s concept and design department – has allowed the Swiss firm to combine two different modelling systems. First it is the mechanical module process geared towards the design of parts and components on the basis of a traditional approach. However, the sheer complexity of the Nubeo creations has required modelling of more complex surfaces with non-parametric surfaces. Combining these two modelling systems is a Nubeo hallmark which is rarely present in the traditional methods of Swiss luxury watchmaking.
As 3D and graphic designers we use all the 3D models and designs created to build our images for visuals, catalogues, manuals or multimedia platforms.+

With Basel proximate to the Canton of Jura, at the base of which reside a number of prestigious manufacturers of watch components, Nubeo works closely with its suppliers to ensure quality production of its complex designs.
Nubeo believe that such direct collaboration is vital to the success and production of the complex components and Nubeo designs.
Inside Nubeo's headquarters are the watch atelier and assembly atelier.+

Once the pieces are designed by 4D department, we create all the 3d models and technical drawings to produce the components and parts with our suppliers.
The watch atelier receives the components to make the control quality process. All components with the Nubeo Swiss standards quality are sent to the assembly atelier to start the assembly timepiece process+

In watchmaking it is fairly common to equate the complexity of a watch with its mechanical interior. True to its transgressing nature and in addition Nubeo has turned this concept around by confering the greatest technical difficulty to the case in the design of this new creations. Timepieces like Black Mamba need to be assembled with 131 components and it is not posible an automatic process.
Because of the complexity in the manufacturing and assembly of our timepieces, Nubeo production is really limited.+

From the assembly of the movement until the final assembly of the timepiece, our movements are adjusted 4 times in 5 positions.

Nubeo cases pass through many different quality controls using accurate and sophisticate machinery.
One of the most important test is the waterproof test. Nubeo makes 3 waterproof test to each single case: Two air deformation tests and one underwater pression test.
After the underwater pression test, Nubeo cases are tested in an automatic condensation test machine.+

The case of the Black Mamba is probably the most complicated in watchmaking history.
One-hundred and thirty-one components were used to manufacture the case, excluding movement, dial and bracelet.+

NIKE ZOOM KOBE shoes used for Christmas game 2008. Only exist two pieces personally signed in front of the shoe by KOBE BRYANT. One of them is exposed in Nubeo Black Mamba showroom. It was a tremendous gift to NUBEO and a big honor to receive from KOBE BRYANT.

A Designer must not loose the "Renaissance Spirit"
Workstations and 3D - 2D software are the pencils and brushes of 21st century but for jewelry design and creation is necessary not to loose the ability to hand-made drawing and painting skills like watercolor, pastel, gouache or oil technics.+

Same minimalist and clean spirit as in Concept+Design Studio but in the Jewelry and Painting studio day light is necessary and very important.

A Designer with "Renaissance Spirit" lives 24 hours a day thinking in art and design. In the free time of a designer is necessary to work and cultivate other Artistic disciplines related with the design of Timepieces and jewelry.
If a designer try to cultivate other disciplines, this will help him to be a true artist. As Dali said, the specialization is necessary today but kill the soul of an artist. Small and independent luxury brands, like Nubeo, need to follow this philosophy to evolve and growth in a competitive market and to be different and exclusive.
The most important to be successful is not only to create beautiful pieces, it is also necessary to have a strong and defined personality to be appreciated and recognized. Different values are very important to achieve this goal or objective : Creativity, know how, work, sacrifice, passion, inspiration......... and humility to not loose the sense of constructive criticism.+

The evolution and growth of Nubeo makes necessary to have more space for new departments and offices.
In 2010 we will need to increase the space of our technical department and the Nubeo administration area.
Beginning 2010 Nubeo will be involved in the creation of his own module movement department where we will design, develop and create new and original modules to assembly over the standard and reliable base movements to offer to our exclusive clientele not only an avant-garde design also extremely original functions.
A 4th floor in the top of the building is ready to include and expand our departments.+

To finalize our visit to Nubeo headquarters I would like to show our terrace in the sky of Basel.
Münster Gothic cathedral is in front of us and will be the perfect place to prepare special events and diners to our guests during Basel exhibition or during a special event or presentation.
The terrace have a capacity for 40 persons.+
